Fresh Perspectives for the Experienced Doctor

By: Dr. Timothy J. Gay, DC

When we discuss the age of a dog, the equivalent is 7 years to 1 year of age. As we become more mature in practice, much like an aging dog, some of us may lose our zest and enthusiasm to chase the ball or roll over. Some of us that are in practice are actually playing dead. The appeal of serving patients and doing the best for them has become more of an irritation than anything.

Let me ask you, would you want to be getting adjusted by you? If you have to ponder that question for even a nano second, the first change that is necessary for building the practice of your dreams is between your ears. I know this is something that you already know, so why aren’t you acting upon it?

There is a choice that we make every morning when we get up; that is how our day is going to look and what we are going to do to improve it. Headspace is the final frontier and is the driving force behind your success potential. Oh sure, that sounds very cliché, but look at it from a patients viewpoint. If you are not 100% on with your adjustment as though your life depended upon it, is it fair for your patient to pay for that service? Being grounded with a strong philosophy and maintaining enthusiasm is the key to your being on or off in your practice.

Write down what your vision for you and your practice is and share it with your staff and your patients. Because when you write things down you make a commitment to do them. When you simply say it but don't write it down there is no commitment. The old perceptions of chiropractic need to be broken down. Many of us have bought into the old perceptions of being “back crackers” and have forgotten the high value of being a doctor of the nervous system, adjusting subluxations, talking more about function and less about symptoms.

Your practice and you need to be tested to your maximum capacity levels. If you want to test your level of capacity and practice efficiency, stop limiting the contents of your practice and try cluster booking 10 patients at 10:00 and 10 more at 10:30. That will give you a new perspective on how efficient you, your staff, and your practice can respond to true capacity.

Patients only respond to their health and wellbeing to the level that they have been taught. That means that they stop seeing you when you stop educating them as to the necessity of care. When they become disinterested and see no further benefit, they make the decision on how important it is for them to continue their care. The doctors that have created the practices that see volumes of patients and several new patients a day started their practices based upon helping others achieve better health through chiropractic care. Most had no idea that they would be rewarded by doing the right thing for the people who needed their services. They did what they did because they had the strength and conviction to do the right thing.

True, there needs to be fair exchange, but that is not the primary reason to do anything. As soon as this shift can take place within you, the practice and your life will change. Keep focal distractions, like the internet, personal phone calls, and reading the sports pages to a minimum when you are in your office and you will find that everything else will flow smoother.  Don’t confuse activity with accomplishment. Continue to use at least one hour of uninterrupted time to improve. There is plenty to think about as an old dog, but it is more important to act upon and then implement the steps that are overlooked in creating momentum to move to the next level.

GOAL SETTING
By: Gunther Allen

We are in a sea of financial hurt these days.  If you turn on the news it is all about the latest bailout or almost bankrupt company.  The talk of recession has turned into a full-fledged economic disaster that we undoubtedly will be feeling for years to come.  The entire nation and world are fearful about the future with everyone tightening up their pocket books.  Although there are a ton of financial experts in the media who will tell you the reasons for the melt-down of our financial system, I believe that we are caught up in a downwards spiraling abyss of negative thought.

Your mind is the most powerful force that we possess.  Thoughts have a basis in reality creation.  If in the moment, you were thinking positive thoughts, you most likely realized a positive result or circumstance; on the other hand, if you were thinking a negative thought, you probably experienced a negative result or experience. We are constantly being fed negative information that feeds on more negative thought and thus a vicious cycle of negativity has been perpetuated.

If what you think has everything to do with the reality that you experience then why aren’t we concentrating on more positive things?  Why isn’t the news reporting the bank that has managed to avoid the credit crisis?  Why aren’t they talking about the upstart auto companies that have waiting lists for their new electric cars that they cannot build fast enough?  There needs to be a paradigm shift of thought that will bring forth more positive thinking.

It has been proven that thoughts are pure energy; based on what you are thinking, those thoughts can create positive or negative energy.  With knowing that, we should realize that thoughts have the power to affect not only our lives, but all the lives around us.  Why then aren’t we doing something as a collective whole to fix this pattern?

Have you ever wondered why people hold on to their negative thoughts and negative ways?  It is actually pretty simple because most everyone holds on to what they are comfortable with and what they know best.  Even if what they know best is actually uncomfortable, they are comfortable holding onto it because most people have a fear of change.  Yes, people want change for the better, but are afraid of it at the same time.  Even a negative paradigm can create a sense of power and allows people to feel contented with uneasy situations. But people have to understand that that their past is not their future and hope lies in paradigm shift and simple awareness that positive thought can change individual lives, a whole community, and the entire world.

The first step is being aware of what you are thinking.  The next step is to fill your thoughts with positive messages, affirmations and ideas.  Surround yourself with positive friends and work mates.  Once you become more aware of your thought and your actions you will begin to see the paradigm shift mentioned before that will become infectious all around you.

In the last election the theme both of the candidates for president were campaigning on was the theme of change.  People were embracing the idea of change because instinctively everyone understands that thinking positive will lead to a brighter and more rewarding experience.  Change your thoughts and you change your behavior; change the behavior and you change the actions you take; change the actions and you change the results.

We all need to recondition ourselves to start a new beginning and embrace the power of positive thought.  It all starts out with one person sharing positive thought and energy.  It can spread like wildfire with a conscious effort to embrace a new positive living paradigm.  We will see a world that is sustainable with alternative energies, a land of tremendous wealth, visions of a brighter tomorrow, and everlasting peace and tranquility.

It might sound a little bit corny to embrace with true positive insight, but as you become more in tune with how you have been viewing the world, you will realize that everyone needs to recondition their thought patterns.  Throwing away our fears that have shackled our positive momentum, encompass a new world that is waiting to discover.  A world that will report wonderful experiences and revelations and no longer dwell on negative aspects that kept us, as a society, in the dark ages.

It is time for us to all walk into the light and live the positive life we all deserve

As a Man Thinks So Shall He Become

- by Dr. Richard Zzizinga

Have you noticed how the winter months have an effect on your body and frame of mind? In the beginning winter seems like a great prospect. There’s the anticipation of the holidays. Even if you’re not religious, there is a kind of excitement in the air and we remember how this time of the year used to be like for us as children. There was the anticipation of presents, lights, decorations and lots of sweets! Thanksgiving time marks the beginning of the shops getting ready to bombard you with all sorts of subconscious messages.

Like how you turned your clocks back to prepare for the shorter days of winter, have you ever made any plans in preparation for your future? It could be that you have heard of goals or of somebody who has written goals down and taken action towards achieving them.

Top 10 reasons to get a Practice Management Coach

By Gunther Allen

Running your practice, especially in these trying economic times, can be a daunting task. Below are 7 tips or reasons why you need a practice management coach to stay positive and focused to reach your goals.

1. You'll accomplish your goals much more quickly.
By working with a coach you’ll learn how to be far more effective, efficient and productive in everything that you do.  A coach will help you to stay focused on your goals by helping you to set up action steps and plan out a map to success.

2. You can avoid making costly mistakes by having someone there to guide you around expensive misjudgments.
The emotional and financial cost of making common mistakes can be avoided by having someone there who has the experience and knowledge to guide you on the correct path.

3. You'll learn how to manage your time more efficiently.
If you are just wasting on hour a day that’s 365 hours a year that you could have been more productive.  A practice management coach can show you how just one hour a day can help guide you to chiropractic greatness.

4. You'll have someone to bounce your ideas off.
It is an invaluable opportunity to share ideas with someone that will make a world of difference in the way your practice is run.

5. You'll save money like never before.
With a coach you’ll learn to leverage your ability to make more money, i.e., improving profitability, adding more value for your patients, properly pricing your services, and increasing productivity just to name a few.

6. You'll have less stress and anxiety.
A coach knows how to help you to reduce stress, integrate all aspects of your life, and guide you to believe in yourself.  If you can dream it and believe it, you can achieve it.

7. You'll have more faith and be more effective and influential with others: family, business and personal relationships.

There will come a time when you will be tested.  A coach is an expert communicator and will help you relate, listen, influence, coach, motivate and support others as well.

8. You'll be investing in yourself.

Whatever you are making, you should be making more and living a better life. But if your outcome is larger than you income, it won’t be long and you’ll have a downfall.  Investing in a coach is investing in your future success. By having someone there to guide and remind you that at the end of the day you are running a business and need to be making the correct business decisions.   With the help of your practice management coach you will ensure your practice will be a money–making endeavor.
